Barcelona defender Jules Koundé looks set to reject a move to one of Europe’s top clubs, choosing instead to stay at Camp Nou this summer.
According to reports, the French international has become a major transfer target for German champions Bayern Munich, who are keen to strengthen their backline ahead of the upcoming season.
As first revealed by BILD and later verified by Diario Sport, Bayern’s management has identified Koundé as the perfect addition to Vincent Kompany’s defensive setup for the next campaign. The former Sevilla man has earned admiration for his adaptability and ability to contribute effectively in both defence and attack. His impressive performances at this summer’s World Cup have further enhanced his reputation across Europe.
However, despite Bayern’s strong interest, it appears unlikely that the 27-year-old will be making the switch to Bavaria. As highlighted by Sport, the player’s camp has been approached recently to understand his situation and contractual terms. Yet, those close to Koundé have confirmed that his main priority remains continuing his journey with Barcelona, and he is not considering a move away from the club this summer.
Koundé’s decision to remain with the Catalan giants will come as a relief to Barcelona fans, who view him as a key figure in the team’s defensive plans under the current management. For Bayern Munich, meanwhile, the search for reinforcements in central defence will now likely shift to alternative targets as they prepare for the new Bundesliga season.
