Srinagar11 july. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a big allegation against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a rally here on Saturday, saying that the BJP is trying to topple the ruling National Conference (NC) government in the state by breaking it. Omar Abdullah, who has been accused of doing soft politics regarding the central government in recent months, also said that no matter how hard the BJP tries, not a single MLA of the National Conference will break.
CM Omar Abdullah said, “Efforts are being made to break the National Conference. One of our MLAs has told that an offer of Rs 20 to 30 crore has come from the BJP. When the lure of money and ministerial post did not work, the BJP is now telling my MLAs behind closed doors – ‘Come with us and we will get you statehood’.”
‘God is witness..MLA took name of BJP leader‘
Omar Abdullah, who is thinking of organizing a new protest in New Delhi from 20th July, vented out his anger on the Centre. Giving information about the offer received by the MLAs, he said that a BJP leader, who is also a Supreme Court lawyer, has given the offer to the MLAs. He said, ‘God is witness that a Jammu MLA told me that a BJP functionary, who is also a Supreme Court lawyer, sought his support and offered Rs 20-30 crore, a ministerial post and statehood in return. They feel that people’s trust is so weak.
Abdullah said, ‘National Conference MLAs will not sell themselves. He said that there is not a single MLA who would sell his integrity for Rs 20 crore or Rs 100 crore because we know that we have to answer to God. Don’t think that we are so weak that you will take over power through the back door.
Threatened to the Center – ‘Don’t mistake my patience for weakness‘
Omar Abdullah also expressed his opinion regarding the proposed protest in New Delhi regarding statehood. He said he is being patient about statehood. But his patience should not be considered his weakness. He said, ‘We have to be patient as they (Ladakh) had. Being patient is not weakness and it does not mean that we remain silent. This does not mean that we should not raise our voice for our rights. This does not mean that you should take unfair advantage of our patience. This does not mean that you should consider us weak. This patience is our strength, this is our voice and if God wishes, this patience will become the means of our success.
‘Centre should tell why we needed to protest at Jantar Mantar’
Omar Abdullah held the central government responsible for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar. He said that the Central Government should ask itself why the ruling party of Jammu and Kashmir (National Conference) feels the need to protest at Jantar Mantar even after more than one and a half years have passed since it came to power. He said, ‘There must have been some compulsion. Something must have happened. I put my political future and reputation at stake and told the Center that we want to achieve our rights through dialogue instead of violence, even though I knew that this decision could be very risky for my political career.
What is the use of government if it is not allowing you to work??
The Chief Minister said his party’s victory in the assembly elections has become a ‘punishment’ for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “If you will not allow the government to function, then why did you let us form the government? What is the use of it? Then you should not have held elections at all.”
He accused the BJP-led central government of controlling the governance in Jammu and Kashmir through the Lieutenant Governor and said, ‘If you had to harass people through Raj Bhavan, fire employees and use bulldozers, then why did you bring us forward? They should have told us at that very moment that you should come forward, but we will tie your hands behind your back. We will give you officers who will not implement (your) decisions. It is because of our patience that we are still working day and night to achieve something for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Preparation for demonstration at Jantar Mantar from July 20
It is noteworthy that after the removal of Article 370, the Central Government had also snatched the statehood from Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two parts. After this, the security system of Kashmir came directly under the Home Ministry. After this the Center conducted elections in the state. National Conference was successful in forming the government in this election. After this, relations between Omar Abdullah and the central government seemed to be improving slightly. However, recently Omar Abdullah announced a protest alleging repeated neglect by the Centre. According to the National Conference leader, his party along with all its political allies will protest at Jantar Mantar from July 20.
