Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Liverpool remain "working hard" to bring in additional players during the summer transfer window, following the early arrivals of Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet.

The newly appointed Liverpool head coach addressed the media for the first time since taking charge at Anfield, offering insights into the club’s ongoing recruitment plans. The Spaniard made it clear that despite some early business, the Reds are determined to further strengthen the squad to compete across all competitions.

Iraola calls for more signings at Anfield

Speaking at the AXA Training Centre on Monday, Iraola outlined his vision for Liverpool ahead of pre-season training, which officially begins on Tuesday. The former Bournemouth manager emphasised the need for additional reinforcements, noting that while the club’s recruitment team has already been active, more arrivals are expected to follow.

“We’ve signed two players already; we need more, we know this. We are working on this. As a coach, I’d prefer to have all my players here from day one, selfishly, but we know it doesn’t work like this. We’re working hard for those signings,” Iraola told reporters.

Active participation in transfer strategy

Iraola also highlighted his direct involvement in the club’s transfer operations. Rather than waiting for the sporting director to deliver new additions, he is actively contributing to identifying and pursuing the right profiles. The coach expressed his intention to integrate new players swiftly, acknowledging that international tournaments and complex negotiations can delay deals during the summer.

Confirming his proactive role, he added: “I’m obviously trying to help also [with the signings].”

Building rapport with the current squad

Beyond the transfer business, Iraola has been focusing on establishing relationships within the current team at Kirby. He revealed that he has already spoken with several key players, including those who represented their countries at the 2026 World Cup. His emphasis is on creating a positive and competitive environment that enables players to excel under his tactical approach.

“I spoke with the players at the World Cup, especially the ones who were eliminated and on holiday. I didn’t want to disturb them while the tournament was ongoing, but I had some good talks,” Iraola explained. “I used these weeks before training to speak with many people who work here daily. They help create the right atmosphere so our players can perform at their best.”

Pre-season preparations gaining momentum

As pre-season training officially begins on Tuesday, several senior players have already returned to Melwood. Dominik Szoboszlai, Joe Gomez, and Jeremie Frimpong are expected to be among the first to participate in the opening sessions. These early workouts will allow Iraola to start implementing his tactical ideas before the full squad reconvenes later in the month after post-tournament rest periods. With the team set to depart for their pre-season tour of the United States, Liverpool’s recruitment department faces mounting pressure to finalise the additional signings Iraola has requested.
