WSL Full-Time received confirmation of the news through an official club statement released by The Pride earlier today.

The 31-year-old Spanish defender has joined London City Lionesses on a free transfer following her departure from Spanish powerhouse FC Barcelona. León enjoyed a remarkable nine-year spell with Barca, during which she collected 25 major honours, including seven league championships and four UEFA Women’s Champions League titles.

On the international front, León has represented Spain 62 times, scoring once for the national team.

Speaking after signing for London City Lionesses, León expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m excited and happy to be here. It’s an appealing and ambitious project. I’ve seen the vision and what is being built here.”

She added, “I played in Spain for many years, and I felt this was the right moment to make a move because of the project. The English league is contributing significantly to the growth of women’s football. I wanted to challenge myself in a different country, in a new league, and experience another style of football.”

Commenting on Michele Kang, León said, “What can I say about Michele? I think what she represents is amazing. She is an inspiring woman who is passionate about advancing women’s football. Naturally, I want to be part of something like this—a club created specifically for women.”

León continued, “My teammates will help me adjust to the new surroundings, and I hope my experience and leadership can support the team this season. I look forward to working with head coach Eder Maestre, the coaching staff, and my new teammates.”

She also mentioned her excitement about moving to the British capital, saying, “Everyone has told me that London is a great city and that I’m going to love it. I’ll take things one step at a time. My goal is to adapt quickly to the team and the league, and from there, give my best both as a player and as a person.”

León concluded, “My objective here is to reach the highest possible level as soon as I can. Every project moves through stages and demands hard work. I still have the same hunger to win and achieve success. Hopefully, we can accomplish that together with London City Lionesses.”

León becomes the fifth addition to the London City Lionesses squad during this summer’s transfer window.
