Ederson’s anticipated move to Manchester United has fallen through, and fresh reports suggest that Atalanta are now preparing to offer the Brazilian midfielder a new contract to secure his future in Bergamo.
Manchester United and Atalanta had previously reached an agreement worth €45 million for Ederson, paving the way for the 26-year-old to join the Premier League side following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
However, over the past few days, it has become evident that the transfer will not go ahead due to issues that surfaced during the player’s medical examination.
Ederson underwent the initial phase of his medical tests in the United States during the World Cup, but these results did not meet Manchester United’s satisfaction. The club subsequently flew him to the United Kingdom for additional evaluations before ultimately deciding to withdraw from the deal.
The midfielder is currently entering the final year of his existing contract with Atalanta, which runs until the summer of 2027. According to the latest update from Fabrizio Romano, La Dea plan to present Ederson with a new contract now that his proposed move to Old Trafford has collapsed.
In a recent Serie A fixture at the Gewiss Stadium on 2 May 2026, Ederson was seen competing for possession against Vitinha of Genoa FC, underscoring his importance to Atalanta’s midfield setup.
Atalanta have maintained that there are no significant health or fitness concerns affecting Ederson and intend to hold discussions with his representatives in the coming weeks to outline the club’s plans for his future.
The Bergamo-based side are reportedly ready to reintegrate Ederson into the squad, and extending his contract would not only signal their confidence in him but also enhance their negotiating position should transfer interest resurface in the summer or in the January window.
Following his participation with the Brazil national team at the World Cup, Ederson is currently on holiday before rejoining his club for pre-season preparations.
