Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans is set to undergo his medical examination tomorrow ahead of completing a transfer to Manchester United.

Following Aston Villa’s big-money acquisition of Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, who joined despite interest from Newcastle United, the club is now focusing on maintaining financial balance. Although parting with Tielemans is far from ideal for Villa, the move helps to offset recent spending.

The prospect of Tielemans departing Villa Park comes as a surprise, particularly since a Belgian pundit had claimed earlier in the summer that the midfielder was unlikely to leave.

However, developments have moved quickly, with both clubs reaching an agreement on the transfer fee, and Manchester United scheduling Tielemans’ medical as the deal nears completion.

The transfer is expected to bring Aston Villa over £35 million, as Manchester United have reportedly triggered a release clause included in the Belgian’s contract.

Journalist Samuel Luckhurst stated on X: “Tielemans due to have medical tomorrow. Deal could range between £35m and £40m.”

The move will be viewed as a significant coup for Manchester United, who are continuing their rebuilding process under new manager Michael Carrick.

Tielemans could soon face his former club in the Premier League and may even meet Aston Villa again in the Champions League, depending on the draw.

Opinions on Tielemans’ calibre remain divided. Some critics, including a former Belgian international, have argued that while he excels in possession, he lacks aggression and effectiveness during transitions—traits that, they say, prevent him from being considered truly world-class.

Although opportunities abroad were available, Tielemans turned down an offer from a Saudi Pro League club earlier this year, preferring to remain in European football.

Having played a key role in helping Aston Villa lift the Europa League trophy last season and secure qualification for the upcoming Champions League, Tielemans leaves the club on a high note. He will now look to contribute to Manchester United’s ambition of challenging for the Premier League title in the forthcoming campaign.
