Travelling by train and enjoying its food is an experience that people often enjoy. But, when the same journey leads to illness because of substandard or expired food, it becomes a matter of serious concern. In an unfortunate incident, 74 passengers were served expired bread in New Delhi-Rani Kamalapati Shatabdi Express during breakfast service. According to NDTV report, passengers travelling in the C-4 coach, including young children, were served packaged bread. One passenger happened to look closely at the packet, noticed the printed 'use by' date of July 10, 2026, and immediately informed others nearby. Scroll down to read the details.

The incident took place on Saturday morning, when breakfast was served and it came with an unpleasant surprise. Soon, everyone began checking their packets and discovered they had all been served bread that had already expired. By then, many passengers had already finished eating it, leading to concerns about possible food poisoning and whether the expired food could affect their health.

Passengers also claimed they saw catering packets kept outside the coach that also contained bread with the same expiry date, NDTV report stated.

Later in the day, IRCTC issued a statement on X saying it had taken the matter "with utmost seriousness." The railway catering body said it had imposed a hefty penalty on the service provider responsible for supplying the food. It also confirmed that the staff responsible had been immediately de-rostered, meaning they were removed from duty. In addition, IRCTC instructed the catering company to ensure that every member of the service staff checks the expiry date of all food products before serving them to passengers, without any exceptions.

Vegetable Sandwich: It is one of the most comforting breakfadt meals, which is travel-friendly too. Fill fresh bread slices with cucumber, tomato, lettuce, grated carrots, and cheese or butter along with chutney or mayonnaise and your sandwich is ready.

Bread Upma: This is a South Indian delight with a twist, and is prepared by tossing bread cubes with onions, tomatoes, curry leaves, mustard seeds, green chilies, and mild spices. They are best enjoyed with coconut chutney on the side.

Paneer Sandwich: It is a vegetarian delight and is rich in protein. All you need to do is, crumble paneer, season it well, spread on the bread slices and toast well. Enjoy.
