In August last year, Lexus discreetly introduced a supercar concept featuring front-engine proportions during the Monterey Car Week event. The brand remained tight-lipped for another four months before confirming it as an all-electric concept carrying the iconic LFA badge. After an additional seven months of anticipation, the new LFA has finally been spotted in motion at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England on Thursday.
Sporting camouflage similar to what the GR GT showcased at the same event last year, the LFA completed a relatively gentle run up the hill, accompanied by both its road-going and racing internal combustion counterparts. The deep growl of the turbocharged V8 engines from those cars easily overpowered any sound from the electric Lexus, leaving little opportunity to gauge the new car’s acoustic character or performance nuances from this appearance.
It is worth recalling that Toyota displayed both the GR GT and GR GT3 halo models in camouflage at this very event last year, roughly five months before officially unveiling both vehicles at the December event where the LFA concept also received its official name. Given this pattern, Lexus’s public showcase at Goodwood could signal a similar timeline, potentially hinting at a production-spec debut for the electric LFA in the near future.
Although detailed specifications of the all-electric LFA successor remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that the GR GT will serve as the internal combustion halo car in Toyota’s performance lineup. The front-engined GR GT will be promoted under the GR name as a distinct brand rather than as a Toyota. For the American market, the model will be retailed through Lexus dealerships instead of the traditional Toyota network. If all goes as planned, it may not be long before Lexus showrooms proudly display both petrol-powered and electric high-performance supercars side by side.
