Bankipur bypoll: BJP candidate Abhishek Bunty withdraws nomination, Neeraj Kumar Sinha replaces him

New Delhi: BJP candidate Abhishek Kumar Bunty on Friday withdrew his nomination for the Bankipur Assembly bye election. He informed BJP state President Sanjay Sarawagi about the withdrawal of his nomination, through a letter. He reportedly said that he was withdrawing his nomination due to some family issues.

After the withdrawal of Bunty, the BJP has announced that Neeraj Kumar Sinha will be the candidate from the Bankipur seat. Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kishor is fighting the elections for the first time, from this seat.

July 13 is the last date of filing nominations.

Bunty takes back nomination within just 1 day

One must note that Abhishek Kumar Bunty had filed his nomination for the Bankipur Assembly seat on Thursday. But he took back his nomination just a day later.

Talking about his decision, Bunty said, “Due to some family reasons, I am unable to contest the Assembly bye-election. I will continue to serve honestly as a party worker.” He added that he had just handed over a letter to BJP state President, Sanjay Sarawagi, the contents of which he would now read in front of the media persons.

Reading out the letter, Bunty said, “The Bharatiya Janata Party selected me as the NDA candidate for the bye-election in the Bankipur Assembly constituency. I express my gratitude to the central and state leadership for this. I would like to humbly inform you that, due to family reasons, I am unable to contest the Assembly bye-election. I will continue to serve sincerely as a party worker.”

Nitin Navin’s resignation led to vacancy in Bankipur

Abhishek Kumar Bunty had filed his nomination for the Bankipur Assembly seat on Thursday. The BJP had declared the candidature of the youth wing leader of the party on Tuesday.

The seat fell vacant after the resignation of BJP National President Nitin Navin. The voting for the bye-election in Bankipur is scheduled to be held on July 30, 2026. The counting of votes is scheduled for August 3.
