WhatsApp may soon introduce a new feature to help you remember the birthdays of friends and family. The app will automatically send you a reminder when a birthday approaches. However, this feature will only work for users who have added their date of birth to their WhatsApp profile.

WhatsApp is preparing to launch a great feature for its users. Reports indicate that a built-in Birthday Reminder feature is being tested within this Meta-owned messaging app. If rolled out, you won't need to rely on separate calendars or third-party apps to keep track of your friends' and family members' birthdays.

According to reports, WhatsApp could automatically send you a reminder as a contact's birthday draws near. However, the feature is currently in the development stage. Let’s explore how it will work and the benefits it offers to users.

How will WhatsApp's Birthday Reminder feature work?

According to a report by WABetaInfo, a glimpse of the new Birthday Reminder feature has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp Android beta update. The feature will include a dedicated section in the app displaying upcoming birthdays of your contacts. Furthermore, WhatsApp will send you an in-app reminder on the day of the birthday, ensuring you can wish them in time.

However, there is a small condition attached to this feature: you will only see a birthday reminder for a contact if they have previously added their date of birth to WhatsApp. Currently, WhatsApp does not require users in every country or region to provide their date of birth; consequently, birthday information won't be available for all contacts right away. Yet, as more users add their dates of birth, this birthday section will become increasingly useful.

How much control will users have over their birthday data on WhatsApp?

At present, this WhatsApp feature is still in the development stage and has not yet been made available to beta testers. The company has not yet clarified whether your birthday will be visible to all contacts or if there will be an option to hide it. It is possible that Meta might add some new options related to birthday privacy before rolling out the feature to all users.
