Kylian Mbappé and the FIFA World Cup are now almost inseparable, as the French superstar once again guided Les Bleus into the semi-finals, this time overcoming Morocco in Boston.

After a goalless first half that included a missed penalty from the Real Madrid forward, Mbappé came alive in trademark fashion after the interval.

The 27-year-old broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a stunning curling strike from outside the penalty area. Just six minutes later, he turned playmaker, setting up Ousmane Dembélé to double the advantage and seal France’s spot in the last four.

With this latest display of attacking brilliance, Mbappé became only the second player in World Cup history to reach 20 goals, leaving him just one behind Lionel Messi in the all-time tally. The two now share the lead in the race for the Golden Boot, each with eight goals in this summer’s tournament.

Opta statistics further reveal that Mbappé is the only player on record since 1966 to register at least 10 goal involvements in two separate World Cups (2022 and 2026). He also became the first player ever to be directly involved in 100 goals for France, comprising 64 goals and 36 assists.

While Messi remains the Greatest of All Time for many fans, Mbappé is quickly building a case as the most dominant performer in World Cup history.

However, there were some concerns late in the match as Mbappé was substituted after appearing to pick up a knock, raising slight fears about his fitness ahead of the semi-final.

For now, though, his pursuit of footballing immortality continues.
