Digital Desk: Indian tennis seems to be getting a new hope. 18 year old Arnav Paparkar has created history by performing brilliantly in Junior Wimbledon. He defeated Ryo Tabata of Japan in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals of Junior Wimbledon 2026. With this, he has become the second Indian player to achieve this feat after 36 years.

Before Arnav, Leander Paes had entered the quarterfinals of Junior Wimbledon in 1990 and also won the title in the same year. Now Arnav’s brilliant performance has rekindled the hopes of Indian tennis fans.

Great victory recorded in 52 minutes

In the round of 16 match, Arnav Paparkar gave a one-sided performance against Ryo Tabata of Japan. He won the first set 6-2 and won the second set also by 6-1 without giving any chance to his opponent to make a comeback. With this victory in just 52 minutes, they confirmed their place in the last eight.

Now Arnav will face Jordan Lee of America in the quarter finals.

Included in the list of selected players of Indian tennis

Arnav Paparkar has now become the fourth player from India to reach the quarterfinals of Junior Wimbledon Boys Singles. Before him, Leander Paes, Ramanathan Krishnan and Ramesh Krishnan have achieved this feat.

Additionally, Arnav has also become the first Indian player to reach the quarterfinals of any junior Grand Slam since Yuki Bhambri at the Junior US Open in 2009.

Who is Arnav Paparkar?

18-year-old Arnav Paparkar is currently ranked 19th in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior rankings.

He won the first major international title of his career at the age of just 14, when he won the Australian Open Under-14 Asia-Pacific Elite Trophy held in Melbourne. After this, in the same year, he showed his talent by winning the title in the National Under-16 competition with a wild card entry.

Now his eyes will be on making it to the semi-finals of Junior Wimbledon.
