Tehran. The funeral program of Iran’s holy city Mashhad had to be changed due to the unprecedented and historic crowd that gathered at the funeral procession of the late Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei in Iraq. In view of the huge crowd, the timing of receiving the mortal remains of the late leader and the last journey in Mashhad has been delayed.
Time changed due to crowd

Giving official information, the committee looking after the funeral and reception arrangements in Mashhad said that due to the huge and unprecedented participation of the Iraqi people, the time of the funeral procession scheduled for Thursday has been changed.

Earlier this program was to be held at 8:00 am local time, which has now been extended to 2:00 pm. According to the committee, during the last journey, the body of Ayatollah Khamenei will be taken through Imam Reza Road to the holy shrine of the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza.
Died in American air strike
It is noteworthy that Ayatollah Khamenei was killed in an air strike conducted by America on February 28. Many of his family members were also killed in this attack. This program of the last journey of the late leader has been going on for several days, which started from Imam Khomeini Mosque of Tehran on Friday. Many foreign dignitaries and religious figures paid homage to him here. After this, a public farewell ceremony was organized on Saturday and Namaz-e-Janaza was organized on Sunday.
More than 70 lakh people gathered in Najaf and Karbala

On Monday, millions of Iranian citizens took to the streets of Tehran, where the funeral procession passed. After this, a procession and Namaz-e-Janaza took place in the holy city of Qom on Tuesday. After Qom, the body was taken to Iraq’s historical cities of Najaf and Karbala. Special memorial ceremonies were organized at the shrine of the first Shia Imam, Imam Ali, in Najaf and the shrine of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussain and his brother Hazrat Abbas, in Karbala. According to initial reports from Iraqi media, more than 7 million people attended these funeral processions held in Najaf and Karbala.
Quds Force commander expressed gratitude

After this historic farewell ceremony that lasted for about 24 hours in both the Iraqi cities, the body was flown from Najaf on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a special message on Thursday expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the Iraqi people and the government for this grand and historic funeral.
