Earthquake tremors in many districts including Latur of Maharashtra, Hingoli being the centre; No news of loss of life or property

Mumbai, 9 July. Light earthquake tremors were felt in many parts of the state including Latur district of Maharashtra in the early hours of Thursday. People of Latur city and Nilanga area reported feeling tremors in the earth. However, it is a matter of relief that till now no loss of life or property or any major accident has been reported from anywhere. According to the district administration, earthquake tremors were felt thrice in the surrounding areas including Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani and Latur on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The first tremor was recorded at 1:37 pm, the second at 2:15 pm and the third at 2:17 am.

According to the official report, the intensity of these earthquakes was measured at 4.6, 3.6 and 3.9 respectively on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be Shirli village in Vasmat taluka of Hingoli district. The administration said that in the preliminary investigation, no loss of life or damage to property has been reported from any district. Since the earthquake struck after midnight, most of the people were sleeping at that time. Feeling three consecutive tremors created an atmosphere of panic among the people for some time, but the situation soon became normal.

The district administration has appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to any kind of rumors and rely only on official information. Also, if earthquake tremors are felt again, then immediately come out of the houses and go to open space and follow the guidelines issued by the administration. District Collector Rahul Cardile said that accurate prediction of earthquake is not possible, hence the best solution is to be alert instead of panicking. He appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the administration in any emergency and stay away from rumours.
