TVK chief and Chief Minister Vijay Thalapathy, who formed the government with a landslide victory in Tamil Nadu, is facing no end of troubles. Even though he has come to power, now a big legal challenge has arisen before him. Madras High Court has ordered to issue a notice to Vijay Thalapathy on Tuesday, July 7. This step was taken by DMK candidate R. who lost the election from Perambur assembly constituency. It has been raised following an election petition filed by D. Shekhar. Justice V. Lakshminarayanan has fixed the next hearing of the case after three weeks.

Serious allegations against Vijay: Was there really election rigging?

DMK leader R. D. Shekhar has challenged Vijay Thalapathy’s victory on several serious grounds. The most surprising allegation in the petition is that of irregularities in the election affidavit. The petitioner claims that Vijay’s affidavits for Tiruchirappalli and Perambur assembly seats have verifications from two different notaries. This raises the question whether the CM was present before the notary at two different places on the same day? Apart from this, Vijay is also accused of not disclosing his income tax dues and not including the expenditure of lakhs on social media campaign as election expenditure.

Case of corrupt practices and violation of rules

The petition not only mentions the affidavit, but also mentions ‘corrupt conduct’ under the Representation of the People Act. R. D. Shekhar has alleged that Vijay used children during the campaign, ignoring the clear instructions of the Election Commission. Also, he has been accused of using the temple and church premises for propaganda, which is wrong in law.

It is noteworthy that only R. Not only D. Shekhar, but DMK candidate Inigo Irudhayraj, who lost the election from Tiruchirappalli East, has also filed a similar petition challenging Vijay’s election. The emphasis in all these complaints is that Vijay has violated the prescribed limit of election expenditure.

Despite huge victory in Perambur, CM is under siege

If we look at the figures, Vijay Thalapathy got 1,20,365 votes in the Perambur Assembly elections, while R. D. Shekhar had secured 66,650 votes. Vijay had won by a huge margin of 53,715 votes. Voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections was held on 23 April 2026 and the results were declared on 4 May. Now it remains to be seen how CM Vijay Thalapathy, through his team, responds to these allegations in the hearing to be held after three weeks. At present, these petitions have created a new stir in the politics of Tamil Nadu.
