Chelsea are reportedly preparing an ambitious reshuffle in their midfield, with Premier League prospects Alex Scott and Adam Wharton emerging as key targets.
According to recent updates, the Blues are prioritising Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as a potential replacement for Andrey Santos. However, a move for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton would only materialise if Enzo Fernandez departs Stamford Bridge.
This information comes from well-connected journalist Simon Phillips on his Substack, who also shed light on Santos’ possible exit and Fernandez’s situation at the club.
It is understood that Arsenal are also interested in Scott, setting up what could be an intriguing contest between two of London’s major clubs for the young midfielder’s signature.
Sharing insights into Chelsea’s midfield strategy, Phillips revealed that Scott has now become a leading option after the club’s pursuit of Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka stalled.
“Chelsea continue to explore midfield options despite recent developments, and they would already have signed Granit Xhaka from Sunderland if a suitable transfer fee had been agreed,” Phillips explained.
“The club could still bring in two new midfielders this summer, with Adam Wharton remaining a high-priority target,” he added.
According to SPTC Sources, Chelsea are now considering Alex Scott as a potential replacement for Andrey Santos following Bournemouth’s impressive use of the youngster last season.
Phillips continued: “Chelsea have admired Scott for quite some time and have been monitoring his performances throughout the season. The challenge, however, is that Bournemouth currently have no plans to sell him and have already presented him with a new contract offer.”
“There’s a sense of pessimism surrounding this transfer possibility, which explains why it’s being downplayed publicly. However, there’s speculation that Santos could be part of a possible swap deal, though that remains purely conjecture at this stage,” Phillips added.
He went on to say that Chelsea’s interest in Scott has been consistent, with multiple sources confirming that the club will make an attempt to sign him. Meanwhile, Wharton’s pursuit will only progress if Enzo Fernandez is sold.
Andrey Santos has reportedly drawn renewed attention from Manchester United, with progress on that front becoming more tangible in recent days. The young Brazilian, despite his potential, has yet to cement a regular role at Chelsea, leading to speculation about an exit.
Given the current circumstances, it would not be surprising if other clubs start to explore potential moves for Santos, especially considering his untapped talent and limited opportunities in the first team.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently confirmed that Manchester United have enquired about Santos’ availability, further indicating that talks around his future are gaining momentum.
Should Chelsea part ways with both Santos and Fernandez, and successfully bring in Scott and Wharton, many supporters might view the reshaped midfield as a positive evolution for the squad heading into the new season.
