Jakarta: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day trip to Indonesia, aligning with India's Act East Policy. Indonesia is increasingly viewing India not just as a strategic ally but as a dependable partner in technology, governance, and development. The successful public policy initiatives from India are becoming influential models for Indonesia's development objectives.

During this visit, several significant agreements are anticipated, particularly in the defense and technology sectors. Indonesia plans to acquire Indian-made Astra air-to-air missiles and enhance its BrahMos missile inventory. Additionally, India will assist in creating Indonesia-specific Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), marking a pivotal moment in the bilateral relationship, according to sources.

• India's election management model will receive a significant endorsement as it supports the development of EVMs tailored for Indonesia.
• Following the success of India's air-to-air missile capabilities demonstrated in Operation Sindoor, Indonesia has opted to import Astra missiles.
• To bolster the critical mineral supply chain, India is set to invest in the production of steel, nickel, and rare earth permanent magnets in Indonesia.
• Indonesia is expanding its BrahMos inventory, with India reportedly providing additional missile batteries.
• India and Indonesia are expected to collaborate on the development of the Sabang port, strategically located near the Strait of Malacca and close to India's Great Nicobar port project.

PM Modi's visit is part of a three-nation tour, aimed at reinforcing India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific. Upon his arrival in Indonesia, he was welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto and four other ministers. The Indonesian Air Force provided an escort of fighter jets as PM Modi's plane entered the nation's airspace. This marks PM Modi's first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. "In 2018, we elevated our relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has benefitted our people," PM Modi stated. On Tuesday, he is scheduled to meet President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Merdeka (Presidential Palace). PM Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome upon his arrival in Jakarta, marking his fourth visit to the Southeast Asian nation at the personal invitation of President Prabowo.
