France’s midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni (26) is expected to be sidelined for Les Bleus’ World Cup quarter-final encounter with Morocco on Thursday, assistant coach Guy Stéphan confirmed. Speaking to the media on Monday, two days after France’s 1-0 win over Paraguay in the round of 16, Stéphan indicated that the Real Madrid player is still recovering from a thigh strain. The match against Morocco will take place at Gillette Stadium in Boston and serves as a repeat of the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-final, which France won 2-0.

According to Stéphan, Tchouaméni is not likely to feature in the upcoming match against the Atlas Lions. The midfielder sustained a minor thigh injury late last week and will continue individual training sessions at least until Tuesday. “We’ll monitor his recovery day by day to see how the injury progresses, if at all. With Thursday’s match approaching quickly, time is not really on our side,” Stéphan explained.

Tchouaméni’s potential absence presents a selection dilemma for head coach Didier Deschamps. His probable replacement, AS Roma’s Manu Koné, received a yellow card during the win over Paraguay. If Koné is booked again in the quarter-final against Morocco, he would be suspended for a possible semi-final appearance should France advance.
