Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest after Paris Saint-Germain’s young winger Ibrahim Mbaye expressed his wish to leave the Parc des Princes during the upcoming summer transfer window. The 18-year-old Senegalese talent, who made an unforgettable mark at the 2026 World Cup, is reportedly eager to find a club that can guarantee him consistent first-team opportunities.

World Cup brilliance attracts Premier League attention

Mbaye’s performances on the world stage caught the attention of football fans and scouts alike. Making his World Cup debut for Senegal, he came off the bench against France and produced a sensational goal after dribbling past Theo Hernandez, etching his name into Senegal’s football history books.

At just 18 years and 143 days, Mbaye became Senegal’s youngest-ever goalscorer and, remarkably, the youngest African player to score in a World Cup match. His eye-catching display has made him one of the most sought-after young players in Europe.

Aston Villa and Tottenham lead the race

According to reports from Foot Mercato, several Premier League clubs have been alerted to Mbaye’s situation. Tottenham have long admired his blistering speed and direct approach, believing his attributes are ideally suited to the intensity of English football. However, Aston Villa are currently showing the strongest interest in landing his signature.

Under Unai Emery, Villa are keen to add dynamic young attackers with significant potential, and Mbaye fits that description perfectly. PSG now face an uphill battle to persuade one of their most promising academy graduates that his long-term future lies in Paris, especially as English clubs circle with enticing offers.

Concerns over progress at PSG

Mbaye, one of PSG’s highly rated ‘Titis’ from their academy, finds his development path increasingly uncertain. Although his contract runs until June 2028, the teenager remains concerned about breaking into Luis Enrique’s first team. With PSG’s constant recruitment of world-class forwards, opportunities for academy players have become limited.

Sources close to the player, cited by Foot Mercato, suggest that while his family and advisors would prefer him to stay in Paris to continue his growth, Mbaye himself is leaning toward a move away. Having already proved his ability against elite opposition on the world stage, he is reluctant to wait for chances that may never materialise.

Battle for recognition with Senegal

Despite his record-breaking goal, Mbaye faced challenges earning consistent minutes with the national team. He was surprisingly left out of the starting lineup for the second group match against Norway, which ended in a 3-2 defeat and drew criticism from fans. When introduced in the 54th minute, he impressed by completing all his dribbles successfully and winning five out of five duels.

Public demand for his inclusion eventually saw him start in Senegal’s final group game against Iraq, where he featured for 57 minutes. That experience has boosted his confidence and determination to play regularly at the highest level, rather than remaining on the fringes in Paris.
