Manchester United have demonstrated significant confidence in their emerging prospects, Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick, through a notable decision reflecting the club’s long-term vision for youth development.
Kai and Jacey are among the most promising young players currently advancing through United’s academy system, both carrying famous surnames but now determined to carve out their own names in football.
As the sons of United icons Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick, the two youngsters are continuing a proud family legacy at Old Trafford. Kai made six appearances in the Under-18 Premier League last season and also featured in the FA Youth Cup for the first time. However, a series of injuries limited his opportunities to play more regularly under Darren Fletcher’s guidance.
Meanwhile, Jacey Carrick made a single appearance in the Under-18 Premier League during the same campaign, continuing his steady progress within the youth setup.
It has now been officially confirmed that both Kai and Jacey are part of a group of Manchester United academy players who have signed scholarship contracts with the club.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the duo were among eight players who attended the annual scholars’ induction event on Friday, where they were formally welcomed into United’s Professional Development Phase programme.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of both Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick. Rooney took time off from his World Cup broadcasting duties to attend, while Carrick participated in dual roles — as United’s first-team manager and as a proud father watching his son’s milestone moment.
Both legends witnessed their sons take an important early stride in their football journeys, marking a key step toward potential professional careers.
As reported by MEN, scholarship deals serve as an essential bridge for young players to further hone their skills and mature as footballers. It represents the final stage before signing professional terms, which becomes possible upon reaching the age of 17.
Alongside Kai and Jacey, other promising players who have also agreed to scholarship terms include Gazik Ibragimov, Edson Dejonge-Seiros, Harlem McLaughlin, Pharell Silvester, Connor Laurie, and Jaume Camacho.
This move highlights Manchester United’s continued commitment to nurturing youth talent and ensuring the next generation of players has the foundation to succeed within one of football’s most storied academies.
