On July 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project from Pachpadra in Barmer district. The live event took place at the SMS Stadium's indoor arena in Jaipur.
The virtual inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Urban Development and Housing Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, Lok Sabha MP Manju Sharma, Malviya Nagar MLA Kalicharan Saraf, and Civil Lines MLA Gopal Sharma.
The event commenced with a tree plantation ceremony at the stadium. Following this, a documentary film showcasing the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project was screened. Additionally, a congratulatory video message from Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar was shared.
During the program, appointment letters were distributed to 5,664 newly appointed personnel in Jaipur.
The Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project will span approximately 41 kilometers, providing seamless metro connectivity from the southern to the northern parts of the city.
A total of 36 metro stations will be developed under this project, including 34 elevated and 2 underground stations. The ambitious project is estimated to cost around ₹13,037.66 crores, with a completion target set for September 2031.
Once completed, the metro network will connect key industrial areas, residential zones, educational institutions, railway stations, the collectorate, and all terminals of Jaipur International Airport. This will offer the public a safe, convenient, environmentally friendly, and modern public transport option.
This initiative is a significant milestone in establishing Jaipur as a smart, robust, and well-connected city, while also enhancing the urban public transport system in the state.
It is noteworthy that the construction and operation of the Jaipur Metro Phase-2, along with future metro projects in the state, will be managed by the joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan, known as the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation (RMRC).
