If your email ID is not linked to your Aadhaar or you wish to change your existing email ID, this information could prove useful to you. Notably, the UIDAI has made the facility to add or update an email ID via the Aadhaar mobile app free of charge for a limited period. The UIDAI has also outlined the procedure for doing so. Let us look at how you can link your email ID to your Aadhaar.
**No fee charged until December 31, 2026**
According to the UIDAI, no fee will be charged for updating or adding an email ID to your Aadhaar between July 1, 2026, and December 31, 2026. Previously, a fee of ₹75 was charged for this service. However, this facility has now been made free until December 31. Please note that this waiver applies only to updates made via the Aadhaar mobile app; if the email is updated through any other medium, the prescribed fee may still apply.
**How to update your email ID in Aadhaar?**
First, log in to the new Aadhaar app.
Next, navigate to the 'Services' section and click on the 'Email ID' option.
Enter your new email ID and verify it using the OTP sent to that address.
Carefully review the information displayed on the screen and complete the face authentication process.
Once this is done, your email ID will be linked to or updated in your Aadhaar.
**Why is it important to link your email to Aadhaar?**
Linking your email ID to Aadhaar offers access to several important benefits, such as:
You receive all essential information and updates related to your Aadhaar directly via email.
You are notified via email of any attempted misuse of your Aadhaar or any suspicious activity, allowing you to take timely action.
Having your email ID linked makes it easier to retrieve your Aadhaar number, enrollment ID, or other critical information if needed.
Additionally, you receive verification details and other Aadhaar-related alerts directly via email. In such a case, if your email ID is not yet linked to your Aadhaar or the old email is no longer in use, you can avail yourself of this free service to update it promptly.
