The Round of 32 at the World Cup is nearing its end, with the Australia vs Egypt encounter being one of the final three fixtures of this stage.

Australia’s best performance in a World Cup remains reaching the Round of 16, a feat they have managed twice in their history.

Egypt, on the other hand, celebrated their first-ever World Cup victory during this tournament, defeating New Zealand 3-1.

The referee appointed for tonight’s contest is Uruguayan official Gustavo Tejera.

Tejera, aged 38, works as an insurance broker by profession but boasts extensive experience as a football referee. His portfolio includes officiating matches in the Saudi Pro League and major international competitions such as the Copa America and CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers.

This will mark Tejera’s second appearance at the tournament, following his earlier assignment overseeing the match between Mexico and South Korea.

Known for his strict approach, Tejera has issued an impressive total of 1,733 yellow cards in his career, averaging slightly over five per game.

However, during his previous match in this tournament, he displayed a more relaxed approach, producing only two yellow cards throughout the game.

Supporting Tejera on the field will be fellow Uruguayans Carlos Barreiro and Nicolas Taran, who will serve as assistant referees on the sidelines.

Additionally, Swiss officials Sandro Scharer and Stephane De Almeida will take up the roles of fourth official and reserve assistant referee respectively.

The winner of tonight’s showdown will progress to the Round of 16 to face either Argentina or Cape Verde, whose match is scheduled later in the evening.

With Lionel Messi leading the charge, Argentina are widely expected to advance, setting up a formidable challenge for whichever team emerges victorious between Australia and Egypt.

Beyond that, a potential quarter-final clash could await against Switzerland, Colombia, or Ghana.
