The German Football Association (DFB) has officially announced that Julian Nagelsmann has stepped down from his position as head coach of the men’s national football team.

In an emotional statement, Nagelsmann shared that he had spent several days reflecting on Germany’s World Cup exit before ultimately deciding to resign from his post.

“I’ve done a lot of thinking in the days since our elimination and have consulted with trusted individuals both personally and within the federation. The decision was anything but easy for me,” said Nagelsmann.

The former manager of Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig, and TSG Hoffenheim emphasised that his foremost concern had always been the success of the national side and that he now believes a change in leadership is what Germany needs most.

“My top priority has always been the team’s success. After such a bitter disappointment, they deserve the chance for a fresh start.”

Nagelsmann also extended his gratitude to his coaching staff, the DFB, and especially the players for their dedication and professionalism throughout his tenure.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation towards Germany’s fans, acknowledging their steadfast support even in difficult times.

“A special thank you also goes to the fans. You carried us, you trusted us, you gave us energy, even during difficult times. It truly pains me that we disappointed you and couldn’t give you any more memorable nights of football at this World Cup. You deserved so much more.”

Nagelsmann’s assistants, Benjamin Glück and Benjamin Hübner, have also tendered their resignations and will depart from the national team setup alongside him.

The DFB is now preparing to begin its search for a new head coach as the next phase of international fixtures approaches. According to several media reports, Jürgen Klopp remains the leading candidate for the position.
