Kapil Dev said if this excessive pressure gets heavy on him, he will lose hi natural batting ability. The former Indian skipper insisted that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a once-in-a-generation talent, which needs to be protected from the outside noises.
In a podcast with SportsTak, Kapil Dev said:
“Vaibhav is one of the finest talents in the world. Don't hype him that much & put him under too much pressure. At this young age, you don't even know what is right or wrong. He is as talented as Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli but in T20s.”
Talking about Vaibhav’s future in red-ball cricket, the 67-year-old opined that Vaibhav should prove his mettle first to claim the peak of his career. Kapil Dev said that Test cricket can play a huge role in Vaibhav’s cricketing dynamics, including mindset, gameplay, and skill set.
Kapil Dev further said:
“If he is ready, then he should be playing because sometimes we think that this is the peak of a batter, so why delay everything? He will have to prove his mettle in Test cricket as well; he is a fabulous T20 batter, we all know. There will be tough times as well, but it will be great to see how this talented young kid handles all these situations in his career.”
India will play the second T20I match of the series against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on July 4th. The opening match of the series was washed out due to rain.
