The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will hold a crucial meeting on July 6 to decide whether to accept the resignation of former General Secretary Champat Rai. However, even if trustees approve his resignation, he will continue to remain associated with the Champat Rai Ram Mandir Trust as a lifetime member.
Why Champat Rai Will Remain A Trust Member
Champat Rai and Trustee Dr Anil Mishra resigned from their respective posts on June 27 after allegations of donation embezzlement surfaced. Their resignations, however, do not automatically end their association with the trust.
Under the trust’s bylaws, office-bearers can only step down from their official responsibilities. They continue to remain lifetime members of the trust unless other provisions apply. This means the Champat Rai Ram Mandir Trust connection will continue even if his resignation is formally accepted.
The trust currently has 14 members. Since two office-bearers have resigned from their posts, the remaining 12 trustees will vote on July 6. A two-thirds majority is required to approve any resignation.
Legal Heat Continues To Build
The controversy has intensified after the Faizabad Bar Association demanded an FIR against Champat Rai, Trustee Dr Anil Mishra and temple construction in-charge Gopal Rao.
A delegation of lawyers is expected to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi police station to seek the registration of a criminal case. They have also warned that they will approach the court if the three officials are not named in the FIR.
Champat Rai Points To Former Driver
According to sources, Champat Rai has told close associates that his former driver, Ramshankar Yadav alias Tinnu Yadav, played the central role in the alleged donation theft.
Rai reportedly claimed that Yadav misused the trust placed in him and orchestrated the fraud. He also alleged that Yadav leaked information to a Samajwadi Party leader when he feared being caught.
Police have arrested eight people in connection with the case, including Tinnu Yadav, Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lav Kush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ramashankar Mishra and Subhash Srivastava. While the investigation continues, all eyes are now on the July 6 meeting, where trustees will decide the fate of the resignations. Regardless of the outcome, the Champat Rai Ram Mandir Trust association will remain intact because of the trust’s governing rules.
