India-Japan Summit: PM Modi called Sanae Takaichi ‘younger sister’, many important agreements

Knews Desk- At the annual bilateral summit held today between India and Japan, both the countries signed agreements to strengthen cooperation in several important areas. Special emphasis was given in the meeting on important areas like Artificial Intelligence (AI), pharma sector and technical cooperation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on her arrival in India, calling her his “younger sister” and a “visionary leader”. PM Modi said in the joint press conference that Takaichi is the first woman Prime Minister of Japan and comes from Nara province, which is also a symbol of the shared Buddhist heritage of India and Japan. In his address, PM Modi said, “My younger sister, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi… her contribution will be important in taking India-Japan relations to new heights.” He also said that a strong partnership between the two countries is essential for global stability and development.

During this period, many agreements to Artificial Intelligence and Pharma sector were signed between India and Japan, which will promote technical cooperation and joint development in the health sector. After the summit, the two Prime Ministers held a joint press conference, in which both the countries reiterated their commitment to further strengthen mutual relations.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi also met President Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan of India, where she was given a guard of honour. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit is an important step towards further deepening the India-Japan special strategic and global partnership. “Act East Forum” established between India and Japan has also been described as a strong institutional medium for cooperation between the two countries, especially it has played an important role in the development of North-East India.

This summit is being seen as a new beginning in the relations between the two countries, in which technology, investment and strategic partnership is expected to get a new direction.
