Read Desk. Filmmaker SS Rajamouli visits the Lumiere Museum in Lyon, France. After visiting the museum and screening room (where his films ‘Eega’ and ‘RRR’ were shown with houseful shows), he was honored with a plaque on the prestigious ‘Muur des Cinéastes’.
Rajamouli overwhelmed with this honor
Rajamouli expressed his gratitude by sharing this news on social media. “Visited the Lumière Museum in Lyon, France and the screening room where ‘Eega’ and ‘RRR’ were shown to a houseful show.”
The filmmaker told that Thierry Frémaux, director of the Institut Lumière and the Cannes Film Festival, introduced him and then took him on a special tour on the road that is considered the birthplace of cinema.
Recalling that moment, Rajamouli wrote, “Thierry Frémaux, director of the Institut Lumière and the Cannes Film Festival, very generously introduced me. Then he said he had planned a surprise and took me to the street where cinema was born. I was already emotional seeing everything that was happening around me.”
He said he was overwhelmed when he learned that his name had been placed on a plaque on the ‘Mur des Cinéastes’ along with some of the world’s most famous filmmakers. He wrote, “And there’s a wall full of plaques. Names of greats like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola… and then I saw a plate covered with red cloth. My mind went numb.”
Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Rajamouli said, “I don’t know what to say about the honor of having my name permanently inscribed on the ‘Murr des Cinéastes’ alongside the greats. Just gratitude. I feel very, very humbled.”
He ended his speech by thanking the Institut Lumière and wrote, “Thank you to the Institut Lumière for a memory that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
Upcoming project ‘Varanasi’
Earlier, Rajamouli had also shown the first glimpse of his upcoming film ‘Varanasi’ at the Annecy Animation Festival. The film ‘Varanasi’ starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles has already created a lot of buzz among fans and industry watchers.
Last year, SS Rajamouli had announced the title of the film and introduced Mahesh Babu’s character, in which he was seen riding a bull with a trident in his hand. The film will be released in theaters on April 7, 2027.
