The Central Government has taken a significant step towards the economic empowerment of rural women. The government's new digital platform, SHE-LEAPS (Self-Help Entrepreneur-Livelihoods and Enterprise Application for Prosperity and Sustainability), will play a pivotal role in achieving the goal of creating 6 crore 'Lakhpati Didis' across the country. This information was shared in an official factsheet released on Wednesday.
**Will Help Empower Women**
'SHE-LEAPS' is a digital platform designed to empower women associated with Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in rural India. Through this platform, women will be able to start their own enterprises, scale them up, and digitally monitor their progress. Additionally, the platform will strengthen livelihoods, enterprise development, and financial inclusion for women. According to the government, the platform will promote both agricultural and non-agricultural rural enterprises, aiming to build a robust and sustainable rural economy.
**New Momentum for the 'Lakhpati Didi' Mission**
According to the factsheet, 'SHE-LEAPS' will provide fresh momentum to the 'Lakhpati Didi' mission. It will facilitate end-to-end digital tracking of income growth and enterprise performance. The government has also planned to allocate ₹10 lakh crore over the next five years to benefit women under the 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme. The government believes the 'SHE-LEAPS' mobile app will play a crucial role in the large-scale expansion of women-led enterprises.
**What Features Will Be Available?**
According to the government, 'SHE-LEAPS' will be implemented across 34 states and Union Territories. It will support the State Rural Livelihood Missions in these regions. The platform will provide real-time data on rural enterprises, offering better insights into economic activities within villages. This will strengthen monitoring at various levels and assist in formulating better policies ranging from the local to the national level.
The government states that 'SHE-LEAPS'—an initiative integrating digital technology, entrepreneurship, and women's empowerment—is a significant step towards digital transformation in rural India. It will not only enhance women's economic participation but also serve as a robust foundation for inclusive and sustainable rural development, while expanding the 'Lakhpati Didi' mission across the country.
