Not even two months have passed since TVK chief Vijay Thalapathy formed the government in Tamil Nadu, but political turmoil continues. There was political turmoil in the state when a situation arose between TVK and DMK over horse trading. On Wednesday (June 1), both the parties accused each other of horse-trading. BJP has also launched a scathing attack on Vijay Thalapathy’s party regarding horse trading.
Chennai Police on Wednesday (June 1) arrested three people in connection with an alleged conspiracy to instigate government MLAs to leave the party. These include a YouTuber and two DMK officials from Karur. This matter has increased further after the arrest. N. The case has been registered on the complaint of Ilaiyaraaja, who is TVK MLA from Uthangarai assembly seat in Krishnagiri district.
In his complaint, he alleged that repeated attempts were made to persuade him to leave the ruling party. He also claimed that YouTuber I.P.D.S. Thirunavukkarasu repeatedly contacted them, negotiated and intimidated them to gain their support. Based on the complaint, Triplicane police of Chennai registered a case and arrested Thirunavukkarasu.
The arrest came a day after Minister Nirmal Kumar alleged that efforts were being made to destabilize the government by luring TVK MLAs. Investigators are probing claims that three TVK MLAs were targeted and each of them was allegedly offered Rs 15 crore to switch sides.
The case has created a political stir following the arrest of two DMK functionaries considered close to former minister Senthil Balaji, with police saying further investigation is underway to identify others involved in the alleged conspiracy.
On the other hand, DMK has written a letter to Governor RV Arlekar demanding an investigation against Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay. The DMK hit back, alleging that MDMK chief Vaiko had admitted that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had tried to buy the two MLAs. Both MDMK MLAs, TM Rajendran from Kadayanalur and S. from Sirkazhi. Senthil Selvan has won the election from DMK’s Simbar.
On allegations of horse trading, Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson Narayanan Tirupati said, ‘TVK alliance is an opportunistic alliance. Be it CPIM, Congress, IUML, DMK being part of the alliance, the public rejected them all. TVK was heavily involved in horse-trading of MLAs. This is an opportunistic and corrupt alliance.
