The Kuwait government has taken two major decisions regarding government work and security. Now any government ministry or agency will have to take approval from the Cabinet before entering into contracts with consulting firms. Along with this, Kuwait has strongly condemned the drone and missile attacks carried out by Iran on Kuwait and Bahrain.

New rule for government contracts

Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has issued a new directive. Under this, it will now be mandatory for all ministers to take the permission of the Cabinet before entering into any agreement with consulting firms. This instruction was issued around June 30, 2026, information about which was given on July 1 and 2. The government has taken this step so that better monitoring can be done on government expenses, purchasing and contract processes.

Kuwait’s tough stance on Iran’s attacks

The Kuwait Cabinet and Foreign Ministry have described the attacks by Iran on Kuwait and Bahrain as a violation of international law and sovereignty. Around June 28, 2026, Iran carried out missile and drone attacks. In these attacks, Kuwait’s power plants, water plants and radar system of Kuwait International Airport have been heavily damaged. Civilian properties have been damaged in Bahrain.

The Kuwait government has made it clear that it reserves the right to take all necessary steps to protect its security and borders. The cabinet has put the country’s army on high alert (maximum operational readiness) and Kuwait’s air defense system has stopped many attacks in the air.

Kuwait has expressed its solidarity with Bahrain and said that Bahrain’s security is part of the collective security of the entire GCC countries. Kuwait believes that such attacks increase tension in the region and harm peace efforts.
