New Delhi [भारत]June 30 (ANI): Academically Global, a healthcare education and career transformation platform founded by Australia-trained healthcare educator Dr Akram Ahmed, has announced 100% placement success for the first batch of its flagship non-clinical healthcare upskilling programme. It offers a new career path for doctors, dentists, pharmacists and AYUSH graduates looking for high-growth opportunities beyond traditional clinical practice.

This achievement comes at a time when India faces a growing paradox in healthcare employment. While the country continues to discuss the shortage of healthcare professionals, thousands of qualified MBBS, BDS, PharmD and AYUSH graduates are struggling with low employability, limited government vacancies and stagnant career growth.

Academically Global's first graduate batch successfully completed specialized executive programs in Clinical Drug Development and Medical Affairs, designed to prepare healthcare professionals for careers in Clinical Trials, Pharmacovigilance, Drug Safety, Medical Affairs, and Medical Science Liaison (MSL). There is increasing demand in these areas from pharmaceutical companies, Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), and Global Capability Centers (GCCs) operating in India. According to the company, every graduate of the first batch secured employment opportunities upon completion of the program.

Dr Akram Ahmed, Founder of Academically Global, said, "Many healthcare graduates believe that their degree is the problem when they do not find meaningful career opportunities. Our experience shows that the challenge is often a lack of awareness, direction and industry-ready skills." He added, "Healthcare education prepares students clinically, but rarely exposes them to rapidly growing non-clinical areas where their expertise is highly valued. Our mission is to bridge this gap."

Global academic leaders support this initiative

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Rajesh Balakrishnan, Professor of Public Health at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and one of the world's leading social epidemiologists. The certificates to the first graduating batch were presented by Zaheer-ud-Din Babar, Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Practice at Qatar University, who presided over the convocation. Both serve as academic advisors to Academically Global and have contributed to the development of its industry-focused curriculum.

Dr. Rajesh Balakrishnan (USA) and Dr. Akram Ahmed (Australia) at the Academically Global campus in Dehradun during the inauguration of the company's industry-focused healthcare upskilling programs. The visit also marked their first in-person meeting in nearly a decade and highlighted growing global academic collaborations supporting healthcare workforce development.

Dr. Rajesh Balakrishnan said, "As the healthcare industry evolves, continuous professional development and industry-relevant skills are becoming essential for healthcare professionals. Programs that bridge the gap between academic training and industry requirements can play an important role in preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals."

Professor Babar said, "The pharmaceutical sector is rapidly evolving, creating new opportunities for professionals with the right combination of scientific knowledge, industry awareness and practical skills. Programs that help bridge the gap between academic education and industry expectations can play an important role in helping professionals access these emerging opportunities."

From overseas licensing to domestic career success

Founded in 2022, Academically Global initially focused on helping healthcare professionals prepare for international licensing examinations and overseas opportunities. Having supported over 10,000 healthcare graduates through international career pathways, the company identified a critical unmet need: enabling healthcare professionals to build rewarding careers within India.

To address this gap, the company launched two intensive four-month executive programs:

  • Executive Program in Clinical Drug Development
  • Executive Program in Medical Affairs and Medical Science Liaison (MSL)

These programs combine industry training, mentorship from experts and structured career support through Jobslly.in, India's first healthcare-focused employment platform.

Graduates get high-growth career opportunities

According to Academically Global, graduates of the first batch have transitioned into various roles such as pharmacovigilance, drug safety, medical affairs, medical science liaison (MSL), clinical research, regulatory affairs and medical writing. Pharmacists who were overworked and underpaid are now working in renowned pharma and CRO companies at a salary of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh per annum. Medical doctors have successfully transitioned into MSL and Drug Safety roles in MNCs with huge salaries up to Rs 32 lakh per annum.

Meeting industry demand for clinically trained talent

As India's pharmaceutical industry expands and multinational organizations increase investment in healthcare knowledge services, the demand for clinically trained professionals in non-clinical functions is continuously increasing. Healthcare graduates have a strong foundation in pharmacology, therapeutics, patient care and research methods, making them highly suitable for roles in drug development, safety monitoring, medical communications and regulatory functions. Industry stakeholders are increasingly viewing such candidates as strategic hires rather than as alternative talent pools.

Building a career in the country itself

Academically Global believes that India's healthcare graduates need greater visibility into emerging career opportunities that go beyond traditional clinical practice. By combining practical industry training with placement support, the company aims to help healthcare professionals unlock career paths tailored to the needs of the evolving industry.

“The opportunities are there. Our aim is to ensure that healthcare graduates have the skills, confidence and guidance they need to access them,” Dr Ahmed said. (ANI)
