Aston Villa set £130 million British record valuation for Arsenal and Chelsea target Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa have reportedly placed a massive £130 million price tag on their star midfielder Morgan Rogers, as Premier League powerhouses Arsenal and Chelsea ramp up their efforts to secure his signature. The Midlands club are determined to retain their key player and have set a valuation that would break the current British transfer record for the England international.

New British record valuation

According to reports from the Telegraph, Villa have made it clear to interested clubs that Rogers will not be sold for less than £130 million. The 23-year-old, who is currently representing England at the World Cup, has become one of the most coveted young talents in European football after an outstanding season for the Villans.

If met, Villa’s valuation would surpass the existing British transfer record of £125 million, the amount Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak during the last summer window.

Market inflation and sell-on clauses

One of the major reasons behind the steep asking price is the recent £116 million transfer of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. Villa believe Rogers’ contributions and experience justify an even higher valuation, noting his 18 international caps for England—six more than Anderson—and his impressive consistency in European competitions.

Additionally, Villa’s stance is influenced by Middlesbrough’s 20 per cent sell-on clause from Rogers’ £15 million transfer in 2024. To ensure a significant net gain, Villa have set their demands accordingly, leaving Arsenal and Chelsea to decide whether they are prepared to match the record-breaking sum.

Arteta’s pursuit of Rogers

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to rejuvenate his midfield following another strong domestic campaign, and Rogers has emerged as one of his primary targets. The Gunners boss is eager to strengthen his squad as the club look to defend their Premier League title and recover from their recent Champions League final setback.

Andrea Berta, who oversees Arsenal’s recruitment operations, now fully understands the financial commitment required to bring Rogers to the Emirates Stadium. With the player under contract at Villa Park until June 2031, the Midlands outfit face no immediate pressure to sell, compelling Arsenal to consider offloading senior players to finance such a high-profile transfer.

Could Martinelli be part of the deal?

Villa manager Unai Emery is eager to strengthen his attacking options, whether or not Rogers departs this summer. The Spanish coach, who previously worked with Gabriel Martinelli during his tenure at Arsenal, remains an admirer of the Brazilian winger and is aware that the North London club could entertain offers for him. However, Martinelli’s substantial salary may complicate negotiations for a club mindful of financial fair play constraints.

Emery is prioritising signings capable of making an immediate impact in his starting eleven as Villa prepare for their upcoming UEFA Super Cup encounter against Paris Saint-Germain.
