Ration Dealer Complaint: The government has established a simple system to address complaints regarding irregularities in ration distribution under the National Food Security Scheme. Learn how you can file a complaint against unscrupulous ration dealers from the comfort of your home.
National Food Security Scheme: The National Food Security Scheme is being implemented to provide affordable rations to poor and needy families across the country. Under this scheme, millions of people receive wheat, rice, and other food grains every month. However, complaints regarding the arbitrary behavior of ration dealers often surface. Instances of dealers providing less ration to cardholders, failing to distribute grain despite recording fingerprints on the POS machine, or misbehaving with people have been reported in some areas.
In such situations, there is no need for people to worry. The government has created an accessible platform for ration-related grievances, allowing you to lodge complaints against dishonest dealers from home.
How to file a complaint?
If you face any issues in receiving your ration or if the dealer is providing less grain, you can call the National Consumer Helpline number, 1967. Additionally, complaints can be registered via the toll-free number of the state's Food and Civil Supplies Department.
Separate helpline numbers are available for each state. For instance, the number 18001800150 has been issued for ration-related complaints in Uttar Pradesh. Once a complaint is registered, the department initiates action.

Help available via online portals too
Ration cardholders can also file complaints by visiting the official website of their state's Food and Civil Supplies Department. To do this, one must submit details such as the ration card number, information about the ration shop, and the specifics of the issue. Upon receiving the complaint, the department investigates the matter and takes action against the ration dealer if necessary.
Complaints can also be filed at the district level
If the issue remains unresolved even after filing a complaint via phone or online, consumers can submit a written complaint to the District Supply Officer or the Supply Inspector's office. Officials inspect the ration shop based on complaints.
Action will be taken against the erring dealer.
If the ration dealer is found guilty during the investigation, strict measures may be taken against them. This includes the suspension or cancellation of the ration shop's license. In serious cases, legal action may also be initiated; it could even lead to imprisonment. The government has stated that no irregularities in the ration distribution system will be tolerated.
