Harry Kane to extend Bayern Munich stay, ending Barcelona transfer rumours

Harry Kane has continued to be a remarkable success story at Bayern Munich since his arrival at the Bundesliga club three seasons ago.

The England captain joined the Bavarian side from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023 and has since silenced doubts that he might finish his career without major trophies, despite being one of the world’s elite forwards.

During his time in Germany, Kane has topped the scoring charts in each of his three seasons, helping Bayern reclaim the Bundesliga title in both the 2024–25 and 2025–26 campaigns.

Rather than winding down his career with a final big contract abroad, the prolific striker has instead caught the eye of yet another European powerhouse through his outstanding record in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

At 32, the London-born forward has reportedly attracted interest from Barcelona. The Spanish champions have developed a reputation for successfully signing experienced strikers who continue to deliver goals well into their thirties.

The most famous example of this approach is Robert Lewandowski, who joined Barcelona from Bayern in 2014 and is now set to leave the Catalan club at 37 to join Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer. While that move has proven effective, new reports suggest that Kane is set to continue his career at the Allianz Arena for the foreseeable future.

Kane’s current contract is due to expire next summer, but according to The Athletic, the England star has decided to stay put: “The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is eager to remain in Germany despite Barcelona’s approach, and the Catalan side have been informed that he is content in Munich.”

The report adds: “Kane had the option to trigger a release clause in his deal this summer, but he would have needed to notify Bayern by January, a step he chose not to take.”

“Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, confirmed in January that discussions were ongoing with Kane regarding a contract extension.”

Earlier this month, Kane scored three times in the United States, becoming England’s all-time leading scorer in FIFA World Cup matches. He captained Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions to group stage wins over Croatia and Panama, guiding them to the top of Group L.

The 32-year-old’s record in Germany remains astonishing, with 98 goals in just 94 Bundesliga appearances and 146 across all competitions for Bayern Munich.

On the international stage, Kane is edging closer to a historic milestone of 100 goals for England. Having scored 82 times in 117 appearances over his 11-year international career, he is on course to become the first English player ever to reach the century mark.

Currently, he is competing for a second FIFA World Cup Golden Boot but trails Lionel Messi by three goals, with the Argentine on six. Kane previously netted six goals to claim the award when England reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup.

England’s next match will be against DR Congo at Atlanta Stadium in Georgia on Wednesday.
