On June 26, coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Himachal Pradesh Police marked Anti-Chitta Day through a significant statewide initiative under the Chief Minister’s Anti-Chitta Jan Andolan, which commenced on November 15, 2025.
In a bold action against drug trafficking, narcotics seized from numerous NDPS Act cases were incinerated with the oversight and virtual presence of the Chief Minister. This operation underscored the state government's Zero Tolerance stance on narcotics, delivering a stern warning to drug cartels and dealers.
The Nurpur Police reported the incineration of contraband from 93 cases, which included:
- 9.68 kg of charas
- 636.43 g of heroin (chitta)
- 21,221 capsules of intoxicant drugs
- 100.42 kg of poppy husk
- 32.06 kg of powdered poppy
- 174 poppy plants
- 2,100 ml of Corex syrup
- 6,000 ml of illicit liquor
The total estimated market value of the destroyed narcotics was around ₹65.33 lakh.
Officials highlighted that the aim was not only the safe disposal of seized drugs but also to convey a strong social message:
- To drug traffickers: Himachal Pradesh is waging a determined battle against narcotics, leaving no room for illegal activities.
- To the youth: Safeguarding the younger generation from synthetic drugs and ensuring their future is of utmost importance.
- To the community: Promoting collective involvement from schools, panchayats, and families to foster a vigilant, drug-free society.
During this event, Nasha Nivaran Samiti meetings were convened across 22 panchayats significantly impacted by drug abuse, focusing on strategies for effective implementation of the Zero Tolerance policy. Furthermore, all educational institutions and government offices in the district took an Anti-Chitta e-pledge to stand united against drug abuse.
The Himachal Pradesh Police has reiterated its appeal to the public to report any information regarding drug trafficking, storage, or consumption by calling 112 or contacting the nearest police station. The confidentiality of informants will be strictly maintained, and prompt action will be taken.
With strong leadership, community support, and youth engagement, the Himachal Pradesh Police reaffirmed its dedication to realizing the vision of a “Chitta-Mukt Himachal.”
