Here’s your Germany vs Ecuador prediction, as Julian Nagelsmann’s side aim to complete a perfect run through the group stage.

Many expected the Germany vs Ecuador fixture to decide the winner of Group E.

However, while Die Mannschaft have triumphed in their opening two matches – the second courtesy of a tense, last-minute goal – La Tri have failed to impress and fallen short of their reputation as potential dark horses.

Can Ecuador pull off a surprise in their final group outing, or will Germany secure the full nine points?

Germany WIN - 4/5

Draw - 11/4

Ecuador WIN - 14/5

Germany have looked strong during their campaign in North America, though their evident defensive vulnerabilities have not gone unnoticed.

A costly lapse in focus against Curacao, followed by an early goal conceded to the Ivory Coast that they had to overturn, means 40-year-old Manuel Neuer’s last clean sheet at a World Cup still dates back to the 2014 final. Adding to their concerns, defender Nico Schlotterbeck remains sidelined with injury.

Ecuador, by contrast, have been solid at the back with Piero Hincapie and Willian Pacho marshalling the defence, but their lack of creativity and goal threat has hindered them this summer. A 1-0 loss to the Ivorians and a goalless draw against Curacao – a match they were expected to win – have left them frustrated.

Nagelsmann is likely to rotate his squad for this game. Deniz Undav’s impressive form could earn him a start, while Jamie Leweling and Angelo Stiller will be eager to make their case for inclusion. Max Beier may also be deployed as a wide forward, offering a different attacking dimension, with much of Germany’s width so far coming from Nathanael Brown at full-back.

Ecuador, on the other hand, must throw everything forward to salvage their campaign. Could Chelsea loanee Kendry Paez get the nod to showcase his potential on the world stage?

With Germany already assured of qualification and likely to rest key players ahead of the last-32, this contest could well prove to be a low-scoring affair.

However, as seen in the clash against the Ivory Coast, the game might open up if Ecuador abandon their defensive structure in pursuit of a goal – a tactic that could leave them vulnerable to Germany’s counter-attacking prowess.

Prediction: Germany 1-0 Ecuador
