Borussia Dortmund have reportedly placed a hefty €100 million valuation on Felix Nmecha amid growing interest from Premier League clubs, ahead of his release clause becoming active in future seasons. The 25-year-old German international has become one of the most sought-after names following his outstanding performances at the World Cup.
Dortmund hold complete negotiating power with €100 million valuation
As per reports from Kicker, the Bundesliga giants have set an uncompromising €100 million price tag for any club hoping to sign Nmecha from the Westfalenstadion this summer. This internal valuation is intended to ward off potential European bidders after the midfielder agreed to extend his contract with Dortmund in March.
Unlike the next two summer transfer windows, Nmecha’s contract does not include an active release clause for the current 2026 window. Instead, the deal contains an €80 million release clause that will come into effect in the summer of 2027, which will further decrease to €70 million the following year. This structure grants Dortmund’s management full authority to control the transfer situation and manage Premier League interest without external pressure.
Homegrown status strengthens Premier League attention
Nmecha’s personal background adds to his appeal among top English clubs seeking to meet homegrown player requirements. Born in Hamburg, his family moved to England in 2007, where he spent over ten years developing in Manchester City’s renowned youth academy.
Due to his long developmental period in England, Nmecha qualifies under the Premier League’s Homegrown Player Rule. This rule mandates that each club must include at least eight homegrown players in its registered squad, significantly increasing demand for the midfielder across the English top flight.
Real Madrid also keeping tabs
Nmecha’s name has long been linked with potential moves away from Dortmund. During the early stages of the World Cup, reports from Sky Sports indicated that Real Madrid manager José Mourinho had begun scouting midfield options, identifying Nmecha as the dynamic and creative player type he wanted at the Santiago Bernabéu.
At that time, Mourinho had already made enquiries about Nmecha’s availability. However, Real Madrid were not the only club interested — both Manchester United and Manchester City were also monitoring the situation closely, setting up a potential transfer battle that has only become more intense since Nmecha’s impressive World Cup performances elevated his market value.
Kovac determined to retain star man
Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac has made it clear that Nmecha’s technical quality, especially his ability to manoeuvre in tight spaces and transition quickly, makes him a vital part of the squad. Club management are keen to construct the team’s core around Nmecha, alongside Nico Schlotterbeck and Serhou Guirassy.
“Dortmund without Felix is completely different from Dortmund with him,” Kovac admitted, highlighting the midfielder’s crucial tactical influence in the team’s build-up play. Nevertheless, his outstanding World Cup showing could fast-track his exit this summer if a club meets Dortmund’s €100 million valuation.
