Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprise move for Scotland’s World Cup goalkeeper Angus Gunn as part of their summer transfer plans aimed at reinforcing their restructured squad. The 30-year-old is currently a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest, and the Old Trafford management are keen to enhance their defensive depth with experienced options.

United’s scouting team has been closely monitoring the Scottish international as part of a broader revamp of their goalkeeping line-up. According to reports, Gunn has become a major target after representing Scotland in their World Cup encounters against Haiti, Morocco, and Brazil. The former Norwich City custodian also shares a long-standing connection with United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, from their earlier days together at Manchester City’s academy.

The Red Devils’ search for a new goalkeeper comes amid a firm decision to part ways with both Altay Bayindir and ex-Inter Milan star Andre Onana. The club has already informed the Cameroonian international that they intend to sell him during the current transfer window. However, if no transfer is completed, he is still expected to report for early pre-season training in two weeks’ time. Meanwhile, Bayindir is strongly tipped to return to Turkey.

In the meantime, young Belgian keeper Senne Lammens has solidified his position as the first-choice goalkeeper at Old Trafford after making his debut against Sunderland last October. With the return of Champions League football next season adding to United’s busy calendar, club officials are determined to bring in a seasoned challenger to ensure stability between the posts. The club has also been tracking Leeds United’s experienced shot-stopper Karl Darlow, while returning youngster Radek Vitek has expressed unwillingness to accept a backup role.

If his transfer situation remains unresolved, Onana could feature in United’s pre-season friendlies against Wrexham in Helsinki on 18 July and Rosenborg on 24 July. Bayindir, who is currently on an extended three-week post-World Cup break after Turkey’s early exit against Australia and Paraguay, is expected to finalise a move to Besiktas upon his return. United’s restructured goalkeeping unit will face its first domestic challenge when they kick off their Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Hull City on 22 August.
