Manchester United are reportedly prepared to meet Aurelien Tchouameni’s contract demands to secure his transfer from Real Madrid, while there is a fresh update regarding Matheus Fernandes’ future.
The Red Devils are actively working in the transfer market to strengthen their midfield following Casemiro’s departure on a free transfer, with as many as three new signings anticipated this summer.
United have already finalised a deal worth around £38 million to sign Ederson Silva from Atalanta, but the club continues to explore several other midfield options in the current window.
Among these, Tchouameni has emerged as a ‘dream target’ for Manchester United ahead of the upcoming season, generating considerable attention in recent weeks.
Speculation surrounding Tchouameni’s future intensified after reports of a disagreement with teammate Federico Valverde. In May, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Manchester United had demonstrated genuine interest in the French midfielder.
Romano explained, “At the moment, I can tell you, for example, on Aurelien Tchouameni, there is interest from Manchester United, that’s for sure. He’s definitely a dream target for Manchester United, but that doesn’t automatically mean Tchouameni will move to Old Trafford just because he had a fight with Valverde.”
He further added, “After such situations, we must see how Real Madrid respond, how the players handle it, and also consider the managerial circumstances — all of which will influence what kind of Real Madrid we see in the 2026/27 season. But apart from clear interest from Manchester United in Tchouameni, there’s nothing further to add regarding transfers at this stage.”
Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs stated on The United Stand that personal terms ‘would not be a problem’ if Manchester United decide to proceed with a move for Tchouameni, as the club ‘would be willing to make him one of their top earners’.
Jacobs also noted that Tchouameni and Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott are considered among the potential alternatives to West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes, who remains a key target for United following the Ederson signing.
However, Manchester United now face growing competition from Tottenham Hotspur in their pursuit of Fernandes.
Fernandes, who could command a transfer fee of up to £85 million this summer, had previously appeared close to joining United. But Spurs have now made a strong financial offer, and reports suggest the player is leaning towards a move to north London.
Jacobs added that Fernandes has not yet finalised his decision on his next club, though a conclusion is expected in the coming days, which could potentially influence West Ham’s valuation.
He revealed, “Matheus Fernandes is expected to decide which club he prefers by the end of this month, and his choice could lead to a small reduction in West Ham’s asking price.”
