A significant political upheaval has erupted in Tamil Nadu as the ruling DMK and the newly formed Tamilga Vetria Kazhagam (TVK) engage in a fierce confrontation marked by personal attacks. The conflict escalated following a controversial remark made by opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin directed at Chief Minister Vijay during a recent assembly session. This dispute originated from allegations of corruption leveled by Vijay against the DMK government, to which Udhayanidhi responded sharply.
Vijay's Accusations Spark Opposition Outcry
During his address in the assembly, Vijay accused the previous DMK administration of misusing public funds under the guise of party fundraising. He asserted that the TVK government would not tolerate corruption or the misuse of taxpayer money. In response, DMK members quickly objected, with Udhayanidhi demanding evidence to support such claims. Despite the opposition's protests, the Speaker allowed Vijay to continue his speech, prompting opposition members to walk out of the assembly.
Udhayanidhi's Personal Attack on Vijay
Following the assembly session, Udhayanidhi launched a scathing personal attack on Vijay. He referenced Vijay's comments about farmers and criticized his 'short story' narrative in the assembly, accusing the Chief Minister of disrespecting the farming community. Udhayanidhi then shifted from political critique to personal jabs, mentioning a 'wife searching for her husband in Chengalpattu Court,' a clear allusion to the ongoing divorce proceedings between Vijay and his wife, Sangeetha Soranalinkam.
The Origin of the Clash
The confrontation began when Vijay narrated a story about a 'missing person' during his speech, which was perceived as a jab at DMK president M.K. Stalin. Before concluding his nearly 45-minute address, Vijay also mimicked a specific hand gesture associated with M.K. Stalin, which elicited applause and table thumping from members of the ruling party.
TVK Responds to DMK's Allegations
In response to Udhayanidhi's remarks, TVK accused the DMK of evading questions related to corruption allegations and resorting to personal attacks instead. The party stated that whenever Vijay raises issues related to alleged corruption, DMK leaders fail to respond adequately and instead target individuals personally. Furthermore, the party claimed that the opposition was uncomfortable addressing political critiques and chose to divert attention from the issues raised in the assembly.
