Telegram India: The ban on Telegram in India has been lifted, and the service is operating as usual; however, the message editing feature remains disabled.
Telegram India: The temporary ban imposed on Telegram in India has been lifted. Users can now send and receive messages just as before. Additionally, the app has returned to the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, meaning it can be reinstalled. However, one specific feature of the app is still not functioning, and users will have to wait about another week for it to return. Along with imposing the ban, the government had ordered that this feature remain disabled.
Why was Telegram banned?
First, it is important to understand why the ban was imposed. A re-examination for NEET was held in the country on June 21, following the cancellation of the initial exam due to a paper leak. Investigations revealed that Telegram had been used to facilitate the leak of the question paper. To prevent a recurrence of such an incident, the government imposed a temporary ban on Telegram, which was lifted on June 22. The app is now functioning normally.
Message editing feature not working.
Along with banning Telegram, the government had ordered that its message editing feature remain disabled until June 30. Even though Telegram's service has been restored, the message editing feature is still not working and will remain disabled until June 30; the restriction on it will be lifted after that date. Notably, this is one of Telegram's most popular features. It allows users to edit a previously sent message instead of deleting or resending it. This feature is available in personal chats, groups, and channels.
What options do users have now?
Users currently have no option to edit messages. Consequently, if a message contains typos or other errors, the only option is to delete it. This is a lengthy process, and it may even require re-typing long messages, but it is the only option available before June 30. There is currently no information suggesting that this feature can remain disabled after June 30; therefore, users will have to wait until that date.
