Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix has emerged as a major transfer target for Chelsea ahead of the summer window, as the club prioritises defensive reinforcements under new manager Xabi Alonso.
The Blues are preparing for a busy transfer period, with several first-team additions expected. At least two of those signings are likely to slot directly into Alonso’s starting eleven.
According to Standard Sport, France international Lacroix figures prominently on Chelsea’s shortlist of central defenders. Although formal negotiations have yet to take place, the 24-year-old is viewed as a serious option by the club’s recruitment team.
Strengthening the backline has become a top priority for Chelsea following the departure of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid. The club’s scouting department has identified centre-back as a position that requires immediate attention.
Interest in Serie A defender Jacobo Ramon, who impressed at Como last season, also continues. Como are reportedly monitoring Trevoh Chalobah’s situation at Stamford Bridge, adding another layer of intrigue to Chelsea’s defensive plans.
Chalobah was Chelsea’s most consistent centre-back during the previous campaign but could still be sold if a suitable offer arrives this summer. The Blues believe a move for Lacroix would significantly elevate the quality and depth of their defensive unit.
Crystal Palace, however, are not under any financial strain and remain in a strong position to retain their key players. Lacroix played a vital role in Palace’s historic 2024–25 campaign, helping the Eagles lift the FA Cup — their first major trophy — and later guiding them to victory in the UEFA Conference League during their maiden European season.
Earlier reports from Standard Sport indicated that Chelsea have cooled their previous interest in Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who is looking for a move away from Spurs. Similarly, no discussions have been held with Atalanta regarding Marco Palestra, the Italian wing-back who had been linked with the London club.
