Galatasaray are reportedly ready to offer Victor Osimhen the team captaincy in an attempt to deter Manchester United’s pursuit of the striker, according to reports from Turkish-Football.com. The reigning Süper Lig champions are said to have no intention of selling their star forward during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly identified the 27-year-old Nigerian as his top target on a five-man shortlist. The Premier League side are seeking a top-class centre-forward to complement Benjamin Šeško and potentially replace the outgoing Joshua Zirkzee.
Galatasaray secured Osimhen’s services on a permanent deal from Napoli for a club-record transfer fee, and his current market valuation stands at approximately €150 million. Head coach Okan Buruk, along with the club’s hierarchy, views Osimhen as a cornerstone of their long-term sporting project.
The club’s leadership plans are closely linked to the dynamics within the RAMS Park dressing room. With current captain Mauro Icardi nearing the end of his contract and his future uncertain, Galatasaray are preparing to hand the armband to Osimhen if Icardi departs. Under the proposed structure, Lucas Torreira would serve as vice-captain, while Abdülkerim Bardakcı would be third in line for leadership duties.
Osimhen’s strong form has been central to the club’s determination to keep him. During the 2025–26 Süper Lig season, he netted 15 goals and contributed five assists in 22 appearances, while tallying 22 goals and eight assists across all competitions. Galatasaray believe that granting him the captaincy will reinforce his sense of importance within the squad and encourage him to remain in Istanbul rather than pursue a move to the Premier League.
