India defeated Kazakhstan to register their second straight win at the AVC Men’s Volleyball Nations Cup at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Sunday.
The hosts continued their dominance, claiming another straight-set victory (25-16, 25-21, 25-15) and remained at the top of their group with six points.
India’s outside hitter Chirag Yadav led the scoring with 14 points and an impressive attack accuracy rate of 25.64%, while captain Jerome Vinith added 13 points.
Kazakhstan tried to put pressure on the Indian defence early in all three sets, but as the match progressed, India asserted its superiority and comfortably sealed the contest.
Kazakhstan’s outside hitter Vladislav Mastikhin was the highest scorer of the match with 16 points. However, he received little support from his teammates, while Kazakhstan also committed several unforced errors that handed India crucial points.
With this victory, India climbed four places to No. 52 in the FIVB World Rankings. They will next face Chinese Taipei on Monday in what is expected to be a much more competitive encounter.
