Uttar Pradesh has created history in the power sector by successfully meeting a record peak electricity demand of 32,348 MW, the highest ever achieved by any state in India.
According to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), the record demand was met seamlessly at 10:48 PM on June 21, surpassing the previous national record of 32,317 MW set by Maharashtra on May 13, 2026.
Consecutive Demand Records Reflect Growing Capacity
The latest achievement comes amid a steady rise in electricity consumption across the state. Uttar Pradesh supplied 31,549 MW on June 20 and 30,968 MW on June 19. The state's earlier peak demand record stood at 31,824 MW, achieved on May 24 this year.
Officials said the continuous increase in power demand highlights the growing strength and reliability of Uttar Pradesh's electricity infrastructure.
Infrastructure Upgrades Drive Performance
The state government has undertaken extensive efforts to modernize the power sector over the past few years. Several new substations have been commissioned, transformer capacities have been enhanced, and aging infrastructure has been upgraded with advanced technology.
Officials attributed the record achievement to improved planning, stronger transmission and distribution networks, and better coordination across departments.
Round-the-Clock Efforts by Power Personnel
Power department staff have been working continuously to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply, even during adverse weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, storms, and extreme heat.
Regular maintenance of power lines, transformers, and substations is being carried out across districts. Special attention is being given to transformer earthing and network safety to prevent disruptions during periods of high demand.
Focus on Consumer Services and Reliability
Senior officials have been conducting inspections of substations and field operations across the state. The power department has also emphasized quicker complaint resolution and improved response times to ensure better consumer service.
Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) and UPPCL Chairman Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal described the successful supply of 32,348 MW as a historic milestone for Uttar Pradesh's power sector.
"Ensuring uninterrupted, safe, and quality power supply to millions of consumers remains our highest priority," he said.
UPPCL Director (Distribution) Gyanendra Dhar Dwivedi stated that electricity is currently being supplied beyond roster levels across the state. He added that feeder shutdowns have been restricted to essential breakdown-related repairs only, helping maintain uninterrupted power supply.
Strengthening Uttar Pradesh's Energy Leadership
With the latest record, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the leading state in meeting peak electricity demand, showcasing the growing capacity of its power infrastructure and reinforcing its position as a key contributor to India's energy sector.
