The initiative, which started with just 105 women banking correspondents in 2020, has today grown into a robust network of over 24,000 women CSPs across rural and semi-urban India. Equipped with smartphones, biometric micro-ATMs and digital banking tools, these ‘BC Sakhis’ are bringing essential banking services to customers at their doorsteps. These include services such as cash withdrawal and deposit, bank account opening, fund transfer, pension disbursement, availing benefits of government schemes and guidance on financial literacy.

This initiative has emerged as an effective means of livelihood generation, under which BC Sakhis are earning Rs.10,000 to Rs.50,000 per month; While top performing agents are getting a chance to earn up to Rs 1 lakh per month. Apart from achieving economic independence, the program is helping women to build self-confidence, give them prestige in society and play a leadership role in their communities.

Reflecting on the journey, Sameer Mathur, Founder and Managing Director, Roynet Solutions Pvt Ltd said, “When we started this initiative, many questioned whether rural women could successfully provide banking services. But instead, we found in them immense determination and a strong desire to learn, progress and become financially independent. Today, these women are not just banking correspondents, but entrepreneurs, trusted advisors and members of their communities.” Our ‘BC Sakhi’ network demonstrates how financial inclusion and women’s empowerment can go hand-in-hand, creating sustainable livelihoods while also expanding this model and ensuring meaningful participation of more women in India’s development journey.”

Further enhancing its expansion, Roynet has recently launched new ‘BC Sakhi Kendras’ in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Each of these centers will serve more than 3,000 customers, bringing reliable banking services closer to disadvantaged populations and creating additional employment opportunities for women.
