Fabrizio Romano has officially confirmed that Casemiro, aged 33, will move to Inter Miami once his contract with Manchester United expires on 30 June, marking the end of a four-year chapter at Old Trafford. The Brazilian midfielder had already informed United in January of his intention to leave as a free agent, and Romano’s trademark ‘here we go’ announcement finalised what had become a tightly contested race involving LA Galaxy, Al Ittihad, and Al Nassr.
During his time at Manchester United, Casemiro made 160 appearances across all competitions. However, his final campaign represented a noticeable decline from the commanding performances he delivered after joining from Real Madrid in 2022. He was omitted from United’s matchday squads towards the end of the season, a clear indication from manager Ruben Amorim that the Brazilian no longer featured in his core plans, regardless of how transfer negotiations unfolded.
Romano confirmed via his social media update that Inter Miami had emerged as Casemiro’s final destination after a drawn-out process. Initially, LA Galaxy held MLS discovery rights for the player, compelling Inter Miami to reach a settlement with Galaxy before formalising their approach – a procedural hurdle that delayed the move but did not ultimately prevent it.
Casemiro will join Inter Miami on a free transfer. Reports from Brazil have suggested that a three-year contract is under discussion, though neither club has publicly disclosed the precise duration or salary details. He is expected to be registered during Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window, opening on 13 July, meaning his potential debut can only occur after that date. Stretty News had earlier reported that verbal agreements were close to completion, and Romano’s latest confirmation now seals the transfer.
Speculation from Brazil that Casemiro had agreed to a contract worth approximately €80 million per season – exceeding Lionel Messi’s salary – has been dismissed by transfer experts as unrealistic, given MLS roster regulations and Inter Miami’s existing wage structure. Such figures have been categorically ruled out.
Casemiro’s debut season at Manchester United was exceptional, providing the defensive midfield stability the club had lacked for years. However, his form deteriorated sharply thereafter, with his movement, composure under pressure, and defensive awareness all declining to the extent that he became a weakness in high-tempo fixtures.
Under INEOS’s ongoing squad overhaul, Casemiro’s departure had become inevitable. Offloading his substantial wages is significant for United’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) compliance. The club’s midfield rebuild is already in motion, with United now in advanced discussions to sign Ederson from Atalanta as Casemiro’s long-term successor – a move that reflects Amorim’s vision for a dynamic, high-energy midfield core.
At Inter Miami, Casemiro is expected to take over the holding midfield role from Sergio Busquets, playing behind Lionel Messi, Rodrigo De Paul, and a team that captured the MLS championship last season. The lifestyle appeal of Miami – which Casemiro and his family experienced during a visit before the final decision – played a decisive role, ultimately outweighing the lucrative offers from Saudi Arabian clubs.
The next steps will be Inter Miami’s official announcement of the signing and Casemiro’s registration once the secondary transfer window opens on 13 July. Meanwhile, Manchester United will aim to finalise the Ederson deal swiftly to ensure Amorim has his preferred midfield configuration in place before pre-season preparations commence.
