India's upcoming T20I series against Ireland has received a major boost after Cricket Ireland formally ruled out any security concerns surrounding the two matches in Belfast. The announcement removes the last hurdle ahead of a tour that could witness a historic moment for Indian cricket.
Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is now in contention to make his international debut during the series. Should the 15-year-old feature in either of the two games, he will become the youngest cricketer ever to play for India's senior men's team, surpassing the record long held by Sachin Tendulkar.
The possibility of such a landmark debut had briefly come under a cloud after unrest in Belfast earlier this month sparked uncertainty over the status of the fixtures. However, following consultations with local authorities and security agencies, Cricket Ireland confirmed that the matches would proceed according to schedule.

Organisers Assure Safety for Teams and Spectators
Cricket Ireland stated that a detailed review of the situation found no specific risks to players, match officials, supporters or the venue. The board also revealed that there are no indications of planned protests or demonstrations that could affect the games. In an official statement, Cricket Ireland said,
“Following a comprehensive review of the current security environment in Belfast, Cricket Ireland can confirm that both Ireland v India T20 International matches at Stormont on 26 and 28 June will proceed as planned. The safety and well-being of everyone involved in the series remains our highest priority. We continue to work closely with the PSNI, venue management and security partners, and are satisfied that the appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safe and successful staging of both fixtures."
It added,
“Current assessments indicate no specific threat to the matches, participating teams, officials, spectators or the venue, and there are no plans for protests or demonstrations that would impact either match day. Accordingly, both Ireland v India T20 International matches at Stormont on 26 and 28 June will proceed as planned."
Belfast Set to Host India for the First Time
The upcoming series will be significant beyond the on-field action. It will mark the first occasion that India play an international match in Belfast, having previously faced Ireland only in Dublin. The Indian squad is expected to arrive on June 23 via London ahead of the two matches at the 4,200-capacity Stormont ground. Cricket Ireland said,
“We will continue to work closely with all relevant agencies and monitor developments in the lead-up to the fixtures. Supporters attending the matches are encouraged to follow official Cricket Ireland channels for any event updates and to allow additional travel time where necessary."
It added,
“We look forward to welcoming fans from Ireland, India and around the world to Belfast for what promises to be a memorable celebration of international cricket."
Meanwhile, India's preparations have been affected by the absence of Varun Chakaravarthy. The spinner has been ruled out of the series as he continues rehabilitation for the left foot injury he sustained during IPL 2026.
