New Delhi: On Saturday, three Indian-flagged oil tankers, carrying a total of over 860,000 metric tonnes of crude oil and manned by 94 crew members, successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, as confirmed by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The vessels, named Desh Vaibhav, Desh Vibhor, and Sanmar Herald, are projected to reach Indian ports between June 24 and July 1.

Desh Vaibhav is anticipated to dock at Vadinar Port on June 24, while Desh Vibhor is also expected to arrive at Sikka Port on the same day. The Sanmar Herald is scheduled to reach Paradip by July 1.

Minister Sonowal shared on X, "Three Indian-flagged crude oil tankers, Desh Vaibhav, Desh Vibhor, and Sanmar Herald, carrying over 860,000 MT of cargo with 94 Indian crew members, have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz today and are en route to India."

He further emphasized, "Under the decisive leadership of Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji, the Government of India is prioritizing the security of India's maritime interests. Our Ministry is actively collaborating with all relevant agencies to ensure the utmost safety of India's seafarers and energy lifelines."

Recently, the United States lifted its blockade on Iran, permitting oil tankers to navigate the Strait of Hormuz as a preliminary agreement aimed at ending the conflict took effect. The waterway had been largely inaccessible for several months, but shipping activities resumed shortly after the deal was implemented.

On June 18, President Donald Trump signed an agreement with Iran, which mandates Tehran to reduce its stockpile of highly enriched uranium and suspends US-backed sanctions, allowing Iran to sell its oil freely—a significant concession from Washington.
